Miscible displacement fronts of shear thinning fluids inside rough fractures
The miscible displacement of a shear-thinning fluid by another of same rheological properties is studied experimentally in a transparent fracture by an optical technique imaging relative concentration distributions. The fracture walls have complementary self-affine geometries and are shifted laterally in the direction perpendicular to the mean flow velocity U : the flow field is strongly channe...
متن کاملA new model for deflagration fronts in reactive fluids
We present a new way of modeling deflagration fronts in reactive fluids, the main emphasis being on turbulent thermonuclear deflagration fronts in white dwarfs undergoing a Type Ia supernova explosion. Our approach is based on a level set method which treats the front as a mathematical discontinuity and allows full coupling between the front geometry and the flow field (Smiljanovski et al. 1997...
متن کاملA Hybrid Model Describing Different Morphologies of Tumor Invasion Fronts
The invasive capability is fundamental in determining the malignancy of a solid tumor. Revealing biomedical strategies that are able to partially decrease cancer invasiveness is therefore an important approach in the treatment of the disease and has given rise to multiple in vitro and in silico models. We here develop a hybrid computational framework, whose aim is to characterize the effects of...
متن کاملinvestigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures
deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
Non-Planar Fronts in Boussinesq Reactive Flows
We consider the reactive Boussinesq equations in a slanted cylinder, with zero stress boundary conditions and arbitrary Rayleigh number. We show that the equations have non-planar traveling front solutions that propagate at a constant speed. We also establish uniform upper bounds on the burning rate and the flow velocity for general front-like initial data for the Cauchy problem.
